Michael and Lesley are now living and working in Kenya and are expecting their first child in September 2010.
Michael visited Kenya in 2001 for a short term mission trip and is currently teaching English as a second language (ESL) at West Nairobi School (WNS) under the supervision of the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS).
Lesley had been to Kenya twice with Mission to the World (MTW) on mission trips, once for 3 months in 2006 and a follow up visit in 2007 before she and Michael made a long term move to Kenya in July of 2009. She is focusing on slum ministry and is also representing a non-profit organization called Development in Gardening (DIG).
West Nairobi School is a private Christian school that seeks to provide Christ-centered education to the international community in Nairobi. Michael is serving the school by teaching English to speakers of other languages and is also coaching the girls’ volleyball team. Please pray for him as he seeks to build relationships with these students and the Kenyan workers at the school.
One of WHM’s missions in Nairobi is to serve slum communities through churches in the following ways: schools, HIV/AIDS support groups, feeding programs, and women’s Bible studies. Lesley is shadowing Lois Carr’s role in this mission that she has held for several years.
Lesley’s primary work thusfar has been representing Development in Gardening (DIG) which seeks to improve the health and well-being of HIV-positive individuals through creating sustainable community gardens and teaching proper nutrition. Her first garden was at a school in Kibera, and the second garden is nearly underway at a hospital just outside Nairobi.
Michael and Lesley have recently been approved to work for WHM in Bundibugyo, Uganda beginning at the end of 2011.
